Do you ever feel like you’re destined for something bigger? That despite what you’ve already achieved and accomplished in life, you’re still not making the most of your time here? That you have a bigger purpose?
You are not alone.
Many times, we often feel stuck in life. You may feel like you are stuck in a relationship, in a job, or in life in general. This happens to a lot of us. This feeling usually happens when you can’t seem to take that step forward to change your current situation.
Feeling stuck can happen in any and all aspects of life
Your own body – feeling sick, being overweight, not being as healthy as you could be
Your mind – bad thinking patterns, negative thoughts, limiting beliefs, habits that no longer serve you
Relationships – with yourself, your partner, a boss, coworkers, family, or friends
In your job or career – feeling stuck in your job, dreading Mondays, always looking forward to the weekend
Your wealth – lack of financial independence and freedom
Or you may just feel a generalized sense of not being satisfied with your life and wanting to make a change, but just not knowing where to start.
Most people wait until the pain of being stuck becomes more difficult than doing something to change their situation.
However, feeling stuck is not always a bad thing. It’s the universe telling you that you are going in the wrong direction and it’s giving you signs to steer the wheel. It can be your driving force to move forward if you let it.
Here are a few ways feeling stuck can push you towards finding your true purpose in life.
Feeling stuck in life can lead you to your true purpose
You’re never satisfied with good enough
If you think you’re meant for something bigger in life, chances are you’re the type of person who goes above and beyond. You aren’t someone who settles for just “okay.” You don’t like mediocrity. You want to be doing your best work and feeling stuck can help push you from good to great.
You dream big and you go for it
Feeling stuck in life can be your driving force to dream a bigger dream and take the steps towards that dream. Harness that energy and take action every day to make it happen. You don’t have to be perfect. Focus on progress and staying consistent instead of chasing perfection.
You seek new knowledge every day and are a life-long learner
People who feel stuck can either stay down or step-up. If you are the latter, feeling stuck will push you to seek out new knowledge and skills.
You aren’t afraid to take risks in life
People who are meant for something bigger know when to make calculated decisions and risks and when to take action. Feeling stuck can push you to take more risks in life and step into the unknown. By having a combination of intuition and analysis to guide your decision-making, you make better decisions and take more worthwhile risks in life.
Finding your purpose
What does it mean to be living ‘on-purpose’?
On-purpose has two meanings for me. On purpose assumes that there was some kind of awareness or consciousness around coming into this specific incarnation – so it wasn’t by accident, it was on purpose…
The other way of looking at this is by becoming aware that you have a purpose in this life, and that it’s our responsibility to figure it out and then live that purpose.
I believe that we are all part of the human species, which means we’re all connected – and just like a body, that connection means that what I do will have an impact or influence on what you do. So I have a role to play in this massive human organism that will affect the whole.
Often, living on purpose has an element of sustainability, being mindful of the impact you have on this earth and on other people – so if you’re not ready to at least consider a possible lifestyle change, then you may not be ready.
When I started on this journey I had no idea what the outcome would be – all I knew was that if I had to live another year of just going through the motions, that I would not make it out the other end.
When somebody feels stuck, the moment they start doing a small new task they haven’t been doing before to change their situation, a big burden lifts off their shoulders. To get unstuck, the hardest step is usually the first one but once you do it, you discover a whole new world and experience.
This small step is an important one. It can be as simple as getting up and taking a shower, or moving your body for a few minutes, or talking to a trusted loved one about where you are in life.
Why does it work? Because it’s a simple reminder that you possess all the power necessary to change your life situation. You are the captain of your ship and you can steer the wheel wherever you want. Nobody can take that away from you. You get to choose where you spend your time and energy on. It all starts with the decision to make that change.
If you are feeling stuck, you may just be spending your time and energy on the wrong things. When you feel stuck in life, there is always something you can do to be in a better position. First, ask yourself these three questions:
What are you willing to stop doing?
What are you willing to start doing?
What is the smallest single step you can take in a new direction?
Then take the next actionable step to make your current situation better even through tiny steps.
You can change yourself, your thoughts, your actions, and your habits.
You can negotiate and re-negotiate with the other person involved.
You can communicate differently and more effectively.
You can start treating yourself better and making yourself a priority.
You can set strict boundaries and make sure they are followed.
You only have one life to live, so by understanding that you aren’t stuck, but rather just spending your time, energy, and other resources in the wrong places, you can then make the decision to change the course of your life. So shape a better life strategy because you only live once.
